TAS-HISTORY: 02. Juni 1900 –
heute vor 125 Jahren
Am heutigen Montag vor 125 Jahren wurde der SC Tasmania 1900 gegründet – seinerzeit noch als Rixdorfer TuFC Tasmania 1900. Legenden ranken sich um die Namensgebung des Vereins nach einer Australien vorgelagerten Insel ebenso wie um das berühmte Bundesligajahr in der Saison 1965/66, das den Verein im kollektiven Gedächtnis aufgrund seiner Erfolglosigkeit unsterblich machte.
Dreimal Endrunde
Nach seiner Umbenennung im Jahr 1907 in Rixdorfer FC Tasmania 1900 folgte dabei eine erste Hochphase: ab 1909 gewann man dreimal die Verbandsmeisterschaft im Märkischen Fußball-Bund und qualifizierte sich jeweils für die Endrunde um die Deutsche Meisterschaft, wo 1910 erst im Halbfinale gegen Holstein Kiel das Ausscheiden nicht verhindert werden konnte (1909 u. 1911 jeweils Aus im Viertelfinale).
Ab 1949: SC Tasmania 1900
Erst nach dem 2. Weltkrieg sollte der Verein seinen Namen SC Tasmania 1900 (ab 1949) erhalten. Es folgte eine zweite Hochphase: bis zur Gründung der Bundesliga 1963 holte „Tas“ drei Berliner Meisterschaften (1959, 1960, 1962) und siegte fünfmal im Berliner Pokal (1957, 1960,bis 1963). In den Endrunden um die Deutsche Meisterschaft ereilte die Rixdorfer jeweils in der Vorrundengruppe das Aus – 1964 scheiterte man dazu als (erneuter) Berliner Meister unglücklich in der Aufstiegsrunde zur Bundesliga (trotz u.a. eines 3:0-Siegs gegen Bayern München).
Auch nach BL-Saison erfolgreich
Auch nach dem „abenteuerlichen Jahr“ im Oberhaus durch Aufstieg am grünen Tisch spielte Tas 1900 im Berliner Fußball weiter eine gute Rolle und wurde 1971 nochmal Meister der Mauerstadt. In der folgenden Aufstiegsrunde zur Bundesliga verpasste man aber ebenso die Qualifikation wie 1969 bzw. 1972 als Berliner Vizemeister. Dazu nahm man auch an europäischen Wettbewerben wie dem Messepokal (1962/63, Aus gegen Stadtauswahl Utrecht) und dem International Football Cup – auch bekannt als Rappan-Pokal – teil (1961/62 bzw. 1963/64 – jeweils Aus in der Gruppenphase).
1973: Konkurs und Aus
Im Sommer 1973 ereilte den Verein dann der Konkurs und er wurde nach den Statuten aus dem Register gelöscht – der von Mitgliedern der Jugendabteilung im Februar des Jahres gegründete SV Tasmania Berlin gilt somit als inoffizieller Nachfolger des SC Tasmania 1900.

125 years ago today
125 years ago today, Monday, SC Tasmania 1900 was founded – at the time still known as Rixdorfer TuFC Tasmania 1900. Legends surround the club’s naming after an island off the coast of Australia, as well as the famous Bundesliga year in the 1965/66 season, which immortalized the club in the collective memory due to its lack of success.
Three Final Rounds
After its renaming in 1907 to Rixdorfer FC Tasmania 1900, the club enjoyed its first peak: from 1909 onward, it won the Märkischer Fußball-Bund championship three times and qualified for the final round of the German championship each time, only avoiding elimination in the semifinals against Holstein Kiel in 1910 (they were eliminated in the quarterfinals in both 1909 and 1911).
From 1949: SC Tasmania 1900
It wasn’t until after World War II that the club received its name, SC Tasmania 1900 (from 1949). A second heyday followed: until the founding of the Bundesliga in 1963, „Tas“ won three Berlin championships (1959, 1960, 1962) and five Berlin Cup titles (1957, 1960, and 1963). In the final rounds of the German championship, the Rixdorfers were eliminated in the preliminary round – and in 1964, as (once again) Berlin champions, they unfortunately failed to qualify for the promotion round to the Bundesliga (despite, among other things, a 3-0 win against Bayern Munich).
Successful even after the Bundesliga season
Even after the „adventurous year“ in the top flight, which resulted in promotion through the green light, Tas 1900 continued to play a strong role in Berlin football, becoming champions of the Walled City again in 1971. However, in the following promotion round to the Bundesliga, they missed qualification, just as they did in 1969 and 1972, finishing as Berlin runners-up. They also participated in European competitions such as the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1962/63, lost to the Utrecht City Selection) and the International Football Cup – also known as the Rappan Cup (1961/62 and 1963/64, both eliminated in the group stage).
1973: Bankruptcy and Dissolution
In the summer of 1973, the club went bankrupt and was struck off the register according to its statutes. SV Tasmania Berlin, founded by members of the youth team in February of that year, is thus considered the unofficial successor to SC Tasmania 1900.
